For my social media search I used blogscope.com and icerocket.com as my two searches. These two search engines are different in their own right. I searched both of the sites on 3/12/2010. I used different key words in both search engines and got two different results. Some of the key words that i used were, immigration, economics, economic impact of immigration, US immigration, United States Immigration and economics, US economics, illegal aliens in the US, and economics of US immigration. Both of these sites gave me different things but I did get a couple of relevant blogs relating to my current topic. Blogscope.com monitors over 43 million blogs on their site and I would rate them a three out of five on their blog searches. Icerocket.com, is associated with twitter and myspace but I could not find a relevant number of hits. I think that blogscope is going to be better because it is run by The university of Toronto, but I would still rate Icerocket a three out of five!

I used ExactSeek.com as my search engine. I used several different keywords such as economics, immigration, economic impact, economic impact of immigration, aliens, illegal aliens, and money. All these different key words brought up something different. I figured since the name of the search engine was exactseek.com, I would get some exact answers, but that was not the case! I searched this on 3/12/2010 and I did find some good sites that have been bookmarked in my delicious account. I do not see where there is a place to find number of hits but this search engine was a huge help and I think I have some very good information that it going to come from it. I would rate this search engine a three out of five!

RJa #5-Books
1. Altshuler, Alan A. Governance and Opportunity in Metropolitan America. Washington, D.C.: National Academy of Sciences, 1999. Print.
This book has been bookmarked in my delicious account. I found this book in a search of google books on 3.3.2010. The title of the book is Governance and Opportunity in Metropolitan America. I used suck key words as immigration, economics, impact, I combined all the keywords at times. There were no reviews of this book.
I found a couple of copies at Jefferson County Library, and Auraia Library and plan on getting the book as
soon as possible.
2. Smith, James P., and Barry Edmonston. The New Americans Economic, Demographic, and Fiscal Effects of Immigration. Washington, D.C.: National Academy, 1997. Print.
I did not have a chance to bookmark this book into my delicious account, but plan on getting it as soon as possible. This is a great book because is discusses the economic side of immigration. I found this book while searching for the other book on 3.3.2010. This book has been reviewed 5 times and has 3 gold stars to it. This should be an excellent resource for my paper.

I have narrowed my topic down. I am going to research and write on the economic impact of immigration. This topic will allow me to dive deeper into the positives and negatives of immigration while learning all that i can about this topic! I started looking around on Wikipedia and found some great information. Wikipedia started me off with some basic points on this topic. This includes social security, taxes, health care, education, and the work force. One astonishing statistic was that illegal immigrants payed over $321 dollars in out-of-pocket health care related issues in 2000. It gave me a general basis for what i am going to research. Upon further research I found a website published by The Academic Press that released a debate in 1998 on immigration. This can be found here; The Immigration Debate: Studies on the Economic, Demographic, and Fiscal Effects of Immigration. There was some interesting information found here. One thing that stood out to me was in a poll from this press release how many immigrants polled wanted to live in California. I know it is a nice place to live but the number was astonishing! My initial research can be found on my delicious account!

Research Journal #2b
I am really kind of torn on what I want to do this semester. I have two topics in mind that I would really like to do. Steroids in sports or immigration would be the two strongest candidates. I played professional baseball for five years with the Florida Marlins so I have a big sports background. I think as we all know the huge scandal of the last decade was steroids in baseball. This topic would be awesome to research as I have never done extensive research in the past. I would really like to go beneath what I have heard on the internet and find out the facts of what really happened. I want to know why steroids are bad. I want to know if this baseball scandal has led to steroids in other sports, venues such as; basketball, football, college athletics, or high school athletics. This is a very broad subject for me right now but I think it might work!
The other topic is immigration. I have researched this topic a little bit in the past and i found out that last year alone, we had more illegal immigrants here than ever before. I would like to delve deeper into it though. What impact does this have on our economy? Are we really loosing jobs? What are the impacts of immigration? How much does it cost the American people to protect our borders? There are so many topics that could be discussed in this topic. I would like to find out more on this topic. There are two tough decisions to make but I am confident that I can get it done!
Research Journal #2a
Five topics that I would be interested in over the course of this semester include:
- Steroids in sports
- Environmental Sciences
- Immigration
- Political Systems and Ideas
- Management roles in the workplace
- Drugs
